Explore How Pop Culture Depicts Black People in ‘Black Nerd Problems’ at the Maltz Museum

Black Nerd Problems

Wed 3/15 @ 7PM

How the media depicts African-Americans has always been a controversial subject, one that sometimes finds people seeing the same thing in opposite ways (Remember how some people lauded The Cosby Show for showing an African-American family as affluent and successful, while others insisted it was whitewash?)

William Evans, the editor-in-chief of the website Black Nerd Problems, blacknerdproblems.com, which deals with depictions of black people in popular media, will be at the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage to talk about how genres such as science fiction and comics have incorporated African-Americans and how they have presented black lives.

Admission is $12, $6 for Maltz Museum members, and includes admission to the museum so come early to see its current exhibit This Light of Ours: Activitist Photographers of the Civil Rights Movement. Reserve your spot by calling 216-593-0575 or going to maltzmuseum.org/black-nerd-problems/.
