Sat 3/25 @ 7:30PM
Chinese classical guitarist Xuefei Yang is a real trailblazer, the first Chinese guitarist to become internationally known. Though she later moved to London to study, the now 40-year old musician started playing in her homeland as a small girl and was performing in Japan and Europe by the time she was in her teens. She’s now performed around the world and released seven albums.
She’ll be in Cleveland for a show sponsored by the Cleveland Classical Guitar Society at Plymouth Church in Shaker Heights as part of its International Series. She’ll perform music by Western composers J.S. Bach, Niccolò Paganini, Antônio Carlos Jobim, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Dilermando Reis and Anibal Augusto Sardinha (Garôto), and contemporary Chinese composer Xu Changjun.
Before the show, at 7pm, instead of the usual pre-concert talk, traditional Chinese artist Guangsheng “Jerry Wang” will do a demonstration of Chinese painting techniques and have a display of his works available for sale.
Tickets are $25; $20 for students and seniors; $40 for gold circle.
