Wesley Bright & the Hi-Lites took Cleveland by storm back in back in 2012 with their horn-driven retro soul and the passionate, committed vocals of frontman Brent Wesley. They did a lot of high-profile local dates, a handful of touring dates and released a couple of singles. Everyone expected them to explode but instead they quietly imploded, disappearing late last year without fanfare.
At the beginning of this year, Wesley formed Wesley Bright & the Honeytones, a tip of the hat to his business the Akron Honey Company, which makes and sells honey products from hives planted in Akron vacant lots. Since Wesley set the tone for the Hi-Lites and the Honeytones features the same three-piece horn section (same guys) and Hi-Lites guitarist Jimmy Parsons, the vibe is very similar, honoring the soul greats of the 50s-70s. Those who loved the Hi-Lites should not despair: the music carries on!
They’ll perform at the Beachland Ballroom with Chicago’s Bassel & the Supernaturals opening. Its time to polish up those dancing shoes again. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.
