There’s a new organization calling itself ciCLEvia, which says it’s part of a “transformative movement” of worldwide groups promoting “open streets or “ciclovias.”
Here’s how they describe it: “Open streets are family-oriented, neighborhood-based programs that are accessible to residents of all ages and abilities. Streets are closed to cars and open to the public, enabling people to walk, jog, bike, and skate in the streets with a focus on health and social engagement. The series is entirely inclusive: everyone from babies to the elderly and experienced cyclists to residents with wheelchairs will benefit directly from participating in the movement.”
It was scheduled to debut in August but got rained out so the first one took place in September — and wouldn’t you know? It rained that day too! But they went ahead and did it anyway.
Now they’re hosting their final one until next year. Pray for good weather! For four hours, they’ll close West 25th St between MetroHealth Drive and Wade Avenue for special events that include yoga, Zumba, dance demonstrations, information on Cleveland’s new bike share program and a chance to try out one of the bikes. It’s free.
