Artists love to complain about critics. Some of that criticism is justified (the shrinkage in arts coverage in this arts-rich region is sad); some of it is just “Why aren’t they covering wonderful ME?”
Now artists can hear directly from one of the area’s longest serving art critics, Dottie Shinn of the Akron Beacon-Journal. As part of its Professional Practices series, the Artists Archives of the Western Reserve will be hosting Art Criticism for Artists, a two-hour session with Shinn where she’s discuss her experiences as a professional critic, what standards she uses to judge what she sees, how artists should interact with critics — and how they should no, and how the Internet has impacted art criticism. There will be a Q&A session following her presentation. It’s free and open to the public. Register here.
