In Year 12 the Ingenuity Festival Tries Something New

The Ingenuity Festival, started in 2005 to marry the arts and technology and to activate underused spaces, has gotten mixed reviews in the last several years. After an audacious debut on Euclid Avenue & an abandoned E. 4th Street, then creating enchanting presentations on the underbelly of the Detroit-Superior Bridge, it moved to warehouses behind Browns Stadium. There it was plagued by generic programming, an ill-chosen assortment of vendors, poor way-finding and last year, bad weather.

Always intended to shift spaces from time to time, it’s moved again and perhaps the new space will bring back some of the magic for its 12th year. It will now take place in the mostly empty Osborne Industrial Complex on Hamilton at E. 54th, where the F*Sho handcrafted furniture show took place a few weeks ago. It’s announced that its theme is “Awakenings.”

CoolCleveland spoke with Ingenuity program director Emily Applebaum inside their new space and she previewed the 2016 Fest. View the video here.

The festival has always promised creative partnerships and experimental performances and projects and every year, there have been a few memorable ones. Here’s to many more this year.

Also note, the festival is charging admission for the first time this year, a not-very-steep $5.
