Hot Tuna Perform Acoustic Show at the Kent Stage

Bassist Jack Cassidy and guitarist Jorma Kaukonen were mainstays of Jefferson Airplane back when the hippie generation’s slogan was “Don’t tryst anyone over 30.” Now both clearly determined to die with their boots on, so to speak, with Cassady now 72 and Kaukonen 76.

The two met as pre-teens in Washington D.C., both already hooked on music, before migrating to San Francisco and its burgeoning psychedelic rock scene. Through the years, the pair remained friends, sharing a voracious catalogue of musical interests including folk, blues, bluegrass and jazz. In the late ’60s, they formed Hot Tuna as an outlet for all those genres, and it is their outlet to this day, with different lineups but always Cassady and Kaukonen (who runs Fur Peace Ranch in Ohio’s Appalachian Meigs County, where he and his friends host music workshops) at the core.

They’ve become familiar figures in this area where they’ll again perform an acoustic set at the Kent Stage. Reserved tickets are $28.50; gold circles tickets are $38.50.
