There are a couple of associations that register cats and sponsor cat shows. The Cat Fanciers Association is the larger and older one. (And by the way, it’s headquartered in Alliance, Ohio). Smaller and less well known is TICA, which registers cats around the world including some newer and even controversial ones such as the short-legged munchkin.
That’s the group sponsoring the two-day “Midsummer Cat’s Dream,” taking place at the Medina County Community Center. You can see some cat shows regulars such as the ever-popular Persians, along with breeds such as Bengals, Savannahs and Thais (pictured) — the latter basically the familiar, old-style Siamese, before the show breed got so peculiar looking.
But in addition to the pedigreed cats, the show has a household cat competition. In this one your cat can be any color, pattern, shape or size — cats are judge on personality, good health and general cuteness. Boy, I’d hate to be a judge in this category!
The show will also have cat supply vendors and — uh oh! — rescues available for adoption. Admission is $5, and you get $1 off for bringing a can of cat food for the rescues.
