PHOTOSTREAM: Lakou Mizik at Ohio City Stages by Anastasia Pantsios

Wed 7/13

Now in its fourth season, people have come to eagerly anticipate the free street party that is the Ohio City Stages. Playing on a stage set on the corner of W. 29th and Church outside the Transformer Station are bands from all over the world, bringing energetic, beat-driven music with a multitude of global influences.

That was the case with Haiti’s Lakou Mizik, who played this year’s second Ohio City Stages (alas, this year there will only be three due to the Republican National Convention with the final one, by Moroccan band Innov Gnawa on Wed 7/27). Their music blended sounds of the Caribbean with American blues and R&B; attentive listeners could connect their music to the zydeco and Mardi Gras Indian music of Louisiana.

As usual, there were all the accoutrements of a party including the ubiquitous Touch food truck, a beer tent from Great Lakes Brewing, and art-making stations hosted by the Cleveland Museum of Art.
