Chrissie Hynde Talks With Rock Photographer Jill Furmanovsky at Akron Art Museum

RockTalk

Thu 7/6 @ 6PM

Jill Furmanovsky launched her career as a rock music photographer in the early ’70s when that whole world was brand new and full of promise. The Rhodesia-born, London-based photographer was in the right place at the right time, taking her first music photo of Paul McCartney as a result of hanging around outside his house when she was a pre-teen. Later on she went to art school and became the official photographer for London’s Agora equivalent, the Rainbow Club.

She parlayed her contacts, smarts and talent into a career that’s lasted to this day shooting a roster of artists that includes the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, the Sex Pistols, the Ramones and Florence + the Machine.

Furmanovsky will be at the Akron Art Museum for a talk in which she’ll share stories and photos and be joined on stage by Akron rock musician Chrissie Hynde, whom she’s photographed extensively. The talk is free. Furmanovsky’s exhibit Chunk of Punk opens at the 22 High Street Gallery at Akron’s Uncorked the next day.
