The new music festival LaureLive makes its debut this weekend. Taking its name from the Laurel School, which has partnered with promoters Elevation Group (the same people who do the Cathedral Concerts at Trinity Cathedral), the two-day event boasts four stages with a lineup that includes national headliners like bluesy rock singer/guitarist Grace Potter, cutting-edge hip hop performance Michael Franti and his band Spearhead, two mainstream bands with Columbus ties O.A.R. and Red Wanting Blue, Syracuse indie rockers Ra Ra Riot, sultry punk-influenced singer Elle King and many more.

The festival also features popular local bands such as roots reggae group Carlos Jones & the P.L.U.S. band, bluesy folk/rock performer Nate Jones and his band, guitarist/vocalist Diana Chittester, and classic-style rockers Welshly Arms in a special performance with the contemporary youth orchestra. The Rock Hall will host panel discussion, Brent Kirby will host one of his fabled singer/songwriter showcases, and the Barking Spirit will present a songwriters in the round performance.

There will also be a wide range of quality food choices including vegetarian, vegan and gluten free. And yes, it’s family-friendly — there will be kids’ activities. Tickets are $115 in advance for the weekend, $65 for one day. At the gate they’re $135 for the weekend, $75 for one day. It takes place at the school’s Butler campus.
