Despite the spontaneous nature of the event, representatives from groups such as Equality Ohio, the LGBT Center and Dare2Care Against Bullying, as were numerous public officials including state representative Nickie Antonio, Ward 3 councilman Keary McCormick, Cleveland City Council resident Kevin Kelley, Lakewood councilman Dan O’Malley and Cleveland community relations director Blaine Griffin who pointed out that the Pride flag was flying at half-mast at City Hall.
At the end, a surprise attendee emerged from the crowd to address the assembly: Cleveland political legend and former city council president George Forbes, who said he’d caught wind of the event and decided to come down with a couple of family members. The vigil concluded with Equality Ohio’s Gwen Stembridge leading the crowd in singing “Let the Sun Shine In.”
