Mulberry Creek Herb Farm in Huron is one of those local treasures more people discover all the time. The family-owned organic farm in Huron stocks an array of herbs of all types that put the few varieties of each at your garden center to shame — dozens of basils, thymes and lavenders, plus unusual herbs you never heard of. They also sell vegetable starters and recently have added more exotic plants, including fruit and nut trees, hops, tea and pepper plants. And if you’re into fairy gardening — gardening with miniature plants — they have one of the largest selections of both plants and tiny little dollhouse-type accessories.

The farm marks the end of the planting season with its annual herb fair, and each year it has a theme, usually a country or nationality. This year though, they’re going for the popular medieval theme.

There’ll be more than 50 vendors, entertainers including a medieval jester doing juggling, magic and fire tricks, medieval re-enactors demonstrating both olden military skills and skills from daily life, and free classes in topics such as medieval medicinal herbs, beekeeping and small-space vegetable gardening. There’s a food tent in which to enjoy the many food items available. (Mitchell’s ice cream always creates a themed flavor for the event). There are also great end-of-season deals on plants. Definitely feel free to come in costume!

Admission is $5, which includes a free herb plant.
