Currently the whimsical yet biting work of ex-Akronite Mark Mothersbaugh, best known as one of the founders of the band DEVO, fills three galleries at the Akron Art Museum, as well as the top floor of MOCA Cleveland. You can go to the Akron Art Museum and probably kill a whole day looking through the notebooks containing the postcard-sized drawings that Mothersbaugh has done every day for more than 40 years to provide ideas for his other work.
You can also go there this evening and join Mothersbaugh’s sister Amy, also an artist and a respected Akron gallerist, in a fun art project: creating a suncatcher inspired by DEVO’s distinctive red “energy dome” headwear. All the materials will be provided and ready to assemble, with Amy’s help. Maybe the group will even sing DEVO songs as they work. The workshop is $15 for museum members $20 for non-members.
