Get Into Some Star Spangled Science at the Great Lakes Science Center

Star-Spangled

Fri 7/1-Sat 7/4

The Great Lakes Science Center has another themed weekend of learning and fun planned for families who drop in on the holiday weekend. Star Spangled Science features activities and demonstrations tied into July 4. Of course, that means fireworks — and there’s a lot of science behind those spectacular displays of pyrotechnics we all love. Learn how rockets are launched and actually get to launch one, or watch science center staff show how those beautiful colors are made. Make some wearable holiday-themed art in red white and blue or make some red-whiter-and-blue goo because what’s more fun than sinking your hands into slime?

And at 3:15pm each day, the staff will mix a watermelon, fireworks and a chemical reaction just to make a mess, apparently. On the less messy side, visitors can add their own piece to a community project to build a giant American flag that plays music and lights up.

It’s all free with regular admission to the Great Lakes Science Center.
