Cleveland’s Screaming at Now That’s Class Pays Tribute to Local Punk Scene

Cleveland's Screaming

Fri 7/1 @ 9PM

Artist/photographer Jim Lanza has become known recently for the work he produces as Foundry Woodprints, producing manipulated prints of Cleveland scenes on wood. You’ve probably seen them at local markets and artisan fairs. But he got his start doing photos and videos at local punk rock shows in the ’80s at underground venues like the Pop Shop and the Lakeside.

He’s also done a series of events paying tribute to that scene under the name Cleveland’s Screaming. He’s promising that the upcoming one at Now That’s Class will be the final one. It’ll feature live sets by ’80s Akron hardcore legends Zero Defex, one of the area’s earliest hardcore bands, along with Dead Federation and Violent Suburban Marriage. But between bands he’ll show some of his old footage of bands like the Pagans, Starvation Army, Pink Holes and more — some never seen before.

To make it even more special, the show will include raffles and silent auctions of rare/one-of-a-kind punk rock collectibles ranging from T-shirts to CDs to art works such as three signed Derek Hess prints to a wooden pillar from the bar at the Lakeside that “”someone” stole after the club closed. Just don’t ask Jim how he happens to have had it all these years. Cover is $8.
