Beethoven’s Piano Concert No. 5 (“Emperor”), the composer’s last piano concerto, made its first concert appearance in 1811. The challenging and innovative work remains a concert favorite over 200 years later.

Veteran Austrian pianist Rudolf Buchbinder (pictured above), who began his international career more than 50 years ago when he was still a teenager, will join Franz Welser-Möst and the Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Hall for four performances of the piece.

Also featured on the programs is Leoš Janáček’s Suite from From the House of the Dead. All except the Friday morning performance will open with Antonín Dvořák’s “The Wood Dove.” Tickets are $29-$149.
