Sat 5/21 @ 10AM-5PM
The rain will be gone (fingers crossed) for next weekend’s BereArtDay. This annual event is usually well attended and the art is worth your time.
Think tents filled with fine watercolors, textiles and ceramics, but on a smaller scale that Boston Mills. And think local non-judged but original handmade objects that you think you might be able to make — but you don’t put in the time to develop your talent like the artists who will be showing off their wares on Saturday.
Berea gets a head start on art shows by hosting their event in May. Ever been on the streets of New York in May? Art blooms right here in Berea just like in Manhattan. At two different festivals on the same day — the downtown Berea Art Walk and the Berea Fine Arts Club MayFest on the Triangle by the clock.
It’s true that it’s too late to display your art this year. But the board members and selection committee is always looking for emerging talent. Chosen artists are paired with local businesses. Mark your calendars for next March.
Sponsors and supporters are encouraging you to “Let Art Grow and Grow and Grow.” Sounds good to me. Find some local art in Berea from 10-5 on Saturday. You will, if you go. The event is free, and the art is worth the asking prices. The details are at bereaartsfest.org.
This calls for an excursion. Coe Lake and the Baldwin Wallace campus are distractions from downtown storefronts. The Rocky River Reservation of the Metroparks is only a few steps away. Drive north and you’ll find the Nature Center the Saturday farmer’s market at the Olmsted Historical Society’s Frostville Museum. You can do some real meandering.
Berea Art Walk & Mayfest. Two events, same day, twice the fun. Go now and you’ll want to be at the Berea Arts Fest on Sat 9/11.
