Runway

Join us on the runway this week as we host the black-tie spectacular that culminates Fashion Week Cleveland. See our interviews, PHOTOSTREAMS and previews below. And yes, our just-announced special event Glam Brunch will feature a chapter on Prince as it traces Glam from the decadent turn-of-the-(previous) century all the way to Lady Gaga.

As more of us become vegan & vegetarian, VegFest is leading the way. Also in its 3rd year is the All Things Water Festival. Three more markets open for the season: Geauga, Countryside and Frostville. We bring you an insider’s look at a couple of premieres by Creative Fusion choreographer Lee Ming-Cheng. And your family can get your own look inside the Mather, moored right at the back door of the GLSC.

The legendary Glass Harp from Youngstown returns to TKS in all their glory, and Angelin Chang performs a benefit for the 2nd FireFish Festival. Celebrate Cinco de Meow at the Clifton Wine Bar to benefit 2 animal rescue groups. Hilary Gent shows her true (water)colors at Maria Neil, while Magically Delicious hits BlueJazz+ in Akron. We’re not the only ones strutting our stuff this week. –Thomas Mulready

Even more ambitious than our sold-out Bowie shows, our next opus, Glam! Bam! Thank You Ma’am From Lady Stardust to Lady Gaga, traces the lost history of one of the most obvious, yet overlooked genres that spanned the entire 20th Century, right up to today’s top hitmakers.

Join us on Sun 6/5 at noon at the acoustically fabulous BOP STOP and bring an appetite. Enjoy an interactive blitzkrieg bop by CoolCleveland’s Thomas Mulready, with seminal video clips, needle drops by DJ JD, trivia contests, giveaways and sing-alongs. Plus a blistering live music showcase by Cleveland glam-punk superstars Vanity Crash. Brunch is available.

The Glam firmament blazes a glittering trail from Art Nouveau through the Roaring Twenties to drag, burlesque & British Music Hall, through Warhol’s Pop Art and the Velvet Underground’s transgressions, to Bowie’s outre personae and Malcolm McLaren’s New York Dolls & Sex Pistols, from Patti LaBelle & Donna Summer to Parliament/Funkadelic & Boy George, from Nine Inch Nails and techno to Goth rock and New Romantics to Rocky Horror and Hedwig, all the way to Madonna, Sia, Lorde and Lady Gaga. Prince? Oh, yes.

It’s not just your imagination. You DO know a lot more vegetarians and vegans than you did a few years ago. Americans are eating less meat, both for their own health and the environment’s, and that’s something that VegFest, now in its 3rd edition and expanded to Cleveland’s Convention Center, hopes to grow.

CoolCleveland writer Kendall Embrescia-Hridel tells us about all the food, speakers, films, vendors and kids’ activities that will be going on all day, offering both the committed and the curious an entry into vegan eating. Sat 5/7.

Last year was officially Cleveland’s Year of Clean Water. But with Lake Erie sitting in our backyard, awareness of this resource’s value is something that needs to keep growing all the time.

That’s idea behind the 3rd annual race/walk 4 Miles 4 Water and the All Things Water festival, both taking place at Edgewater Park, with food, drink, games, exhibitors and music by Carlos Jones & the P.L.U.S. Band. John Benson talks to Erin Huber of sponsoring organization Drink Local Drink Tap, about what they hope people take away from the event. Sat 5/7.
