Talk About How Climate Change Affects Urban Residents at First Unitarian Church

Mike Foley (pictured) has been an advocate for sustainability issues since he was in the state legislature from 2006-2014. That landed him the gig as Cuyahoga County’s first sustainability director, a post he was appointed to in February 2015. Kim Foreman is the executive director of Environmental Health Watch, which works to create healthier living conditions for urban residents.

So they’re well prepared to speak about climate change and poverty and how the two intersect — a topic Pope Francis has put on the front burner. That’s what they’ll do at First Unitarian Church’s weekly forum this week, asking who is accountable? They’ll discuss what efforts are going on in the Greater Cleveland area to mitigate the effects of climate change, especially its impact on lower income residents.

And they’re explore whether urban farms, home weatherization, tree planting and climate action workshops can play a significant role in reducing carbon dioxide emissions. The forums are free and open to all, and offer a chance to engage in lively discussion.
