A few weeks ago, the Great Lakes Science Center hosted Boys Go Science, a daylong workshop to introduce boys to opportunities in science. We promised you they hadn’t forgotten the girls, who probably need the encouragement more to consider such a male-dominated field — and they haven’t.

Today Girls Go Science will introduce girls in grades 6-12 to women working in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields. They will learn about careers in those fields and have a chance to participate in hands-on experiments and group projects with no boys to dominate the proceedings. The keynote speaker is Me’lani Joseph, director of engineering at the Gelfand STEM Center at Case Western Reserve.

After that, girls can choose to participate in workshops on designing and engineering a boat, constructing an energy-efficient roof, creating a roller coaster or producing hair gel products. Tickets are $35 and include lunch and a T-shirt.

Register by calling 216-621-2400 or go to http://www.greatscience.com/girls-go!-science.
