Tenor sax player Ron Holloway is one of those musicians whose name you don’t know but whose playing you’ve probably heard. He’s toured with Southern rockers like the Warren Haynes Band and blues soul ensemble the Susan Tedeschi Band, and guested with Gov’t Mule, the Tedeschi Trucks Band and the Allman Brothers Band. But he’s also performed straight jazz with acts like Dizzy Gillespie Quintet and Gil Scott-Heron and did a lengthy stint in the ’80s with the off-the-wall, uncategorizable Root Boy Slim. He’s even managed to squeeze in a solo release every now and then, although not recently.
However, he is on tour with the Ron Holloway Band. He’ll be at the Kent Stage for a show postponed from from October 23. Tickets are $10.
