The Mansfield-based Neos Dance Theatre has been getting increasing attention for its creative performances that often involved multimedia elements. That will be the case with its upcoming performance “Media and Movement” at the Akron Civic Theatre. Imagery and animation by Emmy-winning artist Andy Gardner and a new film featuring local residents will be incorporated into the dances.
“Big and bold, ‘Media and Movement’ meshes perfectly with Akron’s growing embrace of indie films,” says Neos co-founder/artistic director Bobby Wesner. “This is a daring and edgy approach to dance, and I believe that people will love it once they see it.”
The program includes four works including two world premiers: Illustrious Disillusion, choreographed by Wesner and Nothing in Particular by Neos’ resident choreographer Mary-Elizabeth Fenn. The evening will also include Suite for String, choreographed by Joseph Morrissey and Flight, choreographed by Penny Saunders. Tickets are $25 for general admission seating and $10 for students and children. The program is PG-13 rated for hints of nudity and language.
