Sat 3/12 @ 8PM
As Cleveland’s veteran blues and R&B musicians get older, alas, we’re seeing more and more occasions when the community needs to rally around to help them cope with the expenses of medical issues. In addition to the benefit at the Beachland Sun 3/13 for blues drummer/vocalist Vernon Jones, there’s a fundraiser tonight at the Music Box Supper Club for George Hendricks, vocalist for the Hesitations, who recently had a stroke.
The Hesitations were one of those ’60s soul bands who recorded a handful of albums beloved by collectors and music historians. But they never became much more than a regional band. In 2006, lead singer Art Blakey put together a new lineup, of which Hendricks was a part, for an event at the Rock Hall. Although it wasn’t the original band, it comprised musicians Blakey grew up with who shared his background and musical traditions. The New Hesitations have been performing ever since.
And they’ll perform on Hendricks’ behalf at the Music Box, along with the Travis Haddix Blues Band, Rare Juelle and the Relatively Jammin Blues Band. Tickets are $20 in advance, $22 at the door.
