Fri 2/12-Mon 2/15
As mild as this winter’s weather has been, this weekend is calling for some chilling temperatures. And that’s great news for the 22nd Medina Ice Festival! Come spend a few hours on the Medina Historic Square for the always fun affair.
The festivities kick off Fri 2/12 at 5pm. There will be three speed carving competitions: 5:30, 6 and 6:30pm. It will be a magical sight as competitors work on their iced-out masterpieces, with chunks of ice flying in every which way! Starting at 7pm will be the popular “Fire and Ice Tower Lighting.” The ice is stacked high up and, you guessed it, then lit on fire!
Saturday will start with an individual carving competition. Some of the best carvers in the country compete at this fast and furious contest, a spectacle you want to be sure and see.
Sunday is the team competition carvings. This begins at noon and runs through 4pm. Which team will be the best in 2016? According to previous years, they have been interesting and complex structures, boggling the minds of spectators!
All carving participants will receive prizes. Sponsored carvings will be on display all weekend. Contest pieces will be on display following each contest.
The event is free and open to the public.
