Near West Theatre‘s mission is to build loving relationships and engage diverse people in strengthening their sense of identity, passion, and purpose, individually and in community, through transformational theatre arts experiences. Its soul is its belief in the healing, transformative power of the theatrical arts. The personal and communal growth possible when participating in an acting, singing, dancing ensemble is most fully realized with both skilled leadership and loving collaboration. It does its work by drawing together ensembles and crews of incredible diversity: all ages, races, ethnicity, socio-economic background, level of theatrical skills and experience, physical ability and much more.
Its annual benefit, Let the Sun Shine! invites guests to come in casual, fun and funky ’60s attire or Bohemian chic. It starts at 6:30pm with hearty hors d’oeuvres and libations and bidding on the silent auction. At 8 Near West Theatre cast members will perform, followed by the Fund-a-Need and live auction at 8:30pm. After that there’s a ’60s-themed dance party with a live DJ. The silent auction ends at 9:30. It all takes place at Near West’s stunning new state-of-the-art theater in Gordon Square.
