The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra Salutes Billie & Ella @MusicBoxCle

CJO

Fri 1/15 @ 8PM

Woman jazz singers are enduringly popular even among those who don’t necessarily like other jazz. Their ability to heighten and relate an emotion has broad appeal.

Two of the greatest were Billie Holiday, who died in 1959 at the way-too-young age of 44, and Ella Fitzgerald, who enjoyed a long life and career and passed away in 1996 at 79.

Music associated with both singers will be on the set list when the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, led by its artistic director Paul Ferguson, takes the stage at the Music Box Supper Club. They’ll be joined by one of Cleveland’s most gifted jazz vocalists and their frequent collaborator, Evelyn Wright (pictured). Tickets are $18 in advance, $20 at the door.
