Boston-based Laura Cortese arrived in the city from San Francisco to study violin at the famed Berklee College of Music. Soon she was an integral part of the city’s vibrant musical culture, playing with pop, indie rock and folk acts, up to and including folk royalty like the late Pete Seeger. She’s also performed with his grandson Tao Rodriguez-Seeger in the Anarchist Orchestra.
She’s been part of many projects, but she formed her own band, Laura Cortese & the Dance Cards to play folk music animated by rock & roll attitude and Cajun rhythms. She’s released a string of albums including 2013’s Into the Dark with the band who were chosen to be part of the U.S. State Department’s American Music Abroad program in 2014.
They’ll be rocking things up, root-style at Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s Happy Days Lodge. Tickets are $17; $12 for CVNP Conservancy members; $5 for kids 3-12
