Thu 12/17 @ 11AM-9PM
Just as Cleveland has its holiday band, the Ohio City Singers, so Akron boasts a band that rears its head but once a year. But where the Ohio City Singers are sincere and even sentimental and as their name suggests, feature quality vocal harmonies, Missile Toe who call themselves “the World’s Greatest Christmas Band,” are brash and tongue-in-cheek.
The group will perform a couple of sets at 6:30 and 8:30pm at the Akron Art Museum as part of its weekly free Thursdays, when the museum stays open later — until 9pm — and offers special activities. Any time during the day if you share its online gift guide, you can get a free gift at the museum shop. Bring your little one at 11:15am and 12:30pm for an interactive story session. (That’s free for members and $10 for a non-member child).
And of course you’ll want to see all the shows at the museum, including Island of Misfit Toys with blank vinyl toys turned into artworks by both professional artists and students, and NEO Geo, with pieces by regional artists who work in the style of geometric abstraction, such as Amy Sinbondit, whose work, “Section Break,” is pictured below.
