Garage Rockers the Fleshtones Play @HappyDog58

Fleshtones

Thu 12/3 @ 9PM

The Fleshtones out of Queens, New York seemed sort of like a band out of time. They formed in 1976, just as the punk scene in NYC was kicking into high gear and they performed often at its key clubs in the city, CBGB and Max’s Kansas City. But they were more indebted to ’60s garage rock than to punk.

The band has persisted through the years, long enough to enjoy renewed interest in garage rock. It’s even got a couple of its original members, guitarist Keith Streng and lead vocalist/harmonica player/organist Peter Zaremba. And in the ’00s, they landed on the hip YepRoc label, which has continued to release their albums including last year’s Wheel of Talent.

They’re coming to the Happy Dog, where the opening act will be Archie & the Bunkers, a duo of two teenager brothers who play organ and drums, and are clearly inspired by musicians of the Fleshtones’ generation. It should be a perfect — and intriguing — pairing. Admission is $8.
