Thu 10/8-Sun 10/25
Ever wanted to see Cleveland city councilman Joe Cimperman (above) act? Your chance is coming up! Cleveland Public Theatre has never been hesitant to shake up audiences’ expectations or violating their comfort zone but with its upcoming presentation of White Rabbit Red Rabbit by young Iranian playwright Nassim Soleimanpour, it’s going for the performers as well.
The production will feature one actor each night — and a different one each night, alone on a set, with no rehearsals, no director to prepare him or her, and no reading the script ahead of time. The actor receives the script as he or she is going on stage and discovers its trajectory in company with the audience.
And while some of the area’s most accomplished actors, such as Peter Lawson Jones, Derdriu Ring and Anne McEvoy, are participating, some of the performers — like Cimperman or CPT founder James Levin — aren’t actors at all. You can see a comedian (Mike Polk), a poet/bookstore operator (RA Washington), a theater founder/executive director (Stephanie Morrison Hrbek of the Near West Theatre) and one of the grand dames of Karamu House, Margaret Ford-Taylor.
The show runs Wed-Sun through 10/25 at 7pm in CPT’s Parish Hall. Tickets are $20-$25, but you can come back and see a different actor for only $10.
