Dennis Van Crash, aided by veteran guitarist Miss Melvin and the rock-solid Jason Giaco on drums, delivered a blistering mix of old, new, borrowed and just plain kick-ass numbers to celebrate the release of Vanity Crash‘s 4th release, Love.
With album cover art by Laura & Gary Dumm, Cat Swartz and Elizabeth Ross Yurich, the CD package alone is worth bringing home. A gallery show featuring the artists preceded the Vanity Crash showcase.
Drawing from all their previous releases as well as Love, the band rollicked tightly through one anthem-style sing-along after another. Their glam stylings served them well, and the band’s theatrical garb and mannerisms became integral to their presentation. Early in the set, David Bowie’s “Moonage Daydream” was bookended with their final number, Mott The Hoople’s “All The Young Dudes,” featuring lead vocals by Giaco.
An enthusiastic crowd packed the intimate sideroom at Lakewood’s 5 O’Clock Lounge, and Vanity Crash left them wanting more, just as any good actor knows how to do. Upcoming shows include 11/6 at Shaker’s Tavern in Cleveland, 11/14 at the Beck Center for the Arts in Lakewood, and 12/19 at Yorktown Lanes in Parma, OH.
