Earth Day Coalition, which does a great job of informing us how to cherish our Earth and keep it well for future generations, deserves our support. The future of the Earth, our home, is at stake. You can support the Coalition by putting on your best clothes and attending the Instrumental Evening for the Earth on 11/4 at the smARTspace at the 78th Street Studios.
Earth Day Coalition is a nonprofit organization located in Ohio City, and it’s a mainstay in our community. And for the last eighteen years, the Coalition has staged its annual Instrumental Evening for the Earth to support four of its year-long community works programs.
This full-of-fun evening features musical performances throughout the evening, including performances by members of the Cleveland Orchestra. Folk music will be performed by the duo of Shawn and Shelby, acoustic jazz by the NEO Trio will caress the air, and Lembi Veskimets and Daniel McKelway of the Cleveland Orchestra will bring chamber music to life with Martinu’s Duo and Mozart Operas.
Acclaimed local restaurants will show off their culinary talents and the art galleries at 78th Street Studios will be open throughout the event. Imagine listening to live music while strolling through the historic space and exploring amazing art that you’ll want to take home or gift.
Vice president/program manager Bill O’Connell of WCLV 104.9 FM hosts the event. Further support can be given to the Coalition when bidding on Earth-friendly items, packages and services in the Eco-Raffle and during the live auction. In doing so, you’ll be helping to support the Fund-A-Need program to sustain Earth Day Coalition’s year-round Community Works programs: student environmental leadership, clean transportation, neighborhood action and its annual major celebration, EarthFest.
You know EarthFest. Every year, this event, the largest in Ohio, raises awareness of environmental issues. The longest-running Earth Day celebration in the nation takes place in Cleveland every spring, when the Earth is reawakening.
Tickets are $100, but students can be part of the event for $50. Save by organizing a group of six people for $500 (tickets include an open bar). Call 216-281-6468 or email nbechara@earthdaycoalition.org/. You’ll be impressed by the group’s extensive list of sponsors, which include restaurants, marketing and design firms, local media, the Port of Cleveland, RTA, Dominion and private foundations. While at the website, you can also discover volunteer opportunities and other ways to support Earth Day Coalition and help save the Earth.
