The first season of Night Markets in AsiaTown drew to a close this past week with more people, more vendors and more performers. Since they debuted in June, the markets, which began on one block of Rockwell Avenue between E. 21st and E. 22nd, have spilled over onto E. 21st Street and have attracted a larger crowd each month. Running from 5-11PM on the last Friday of each month, the crowds swell after dark as mysterious costumed figures emerge from the crowd and food vendors’ grills emit flashes of fire. The shifting mix of food vendors, artists and craftspeople and performers is heavy on “eclectic” so you never know what you will stumble across — and things are rearranged every month.
If you didn’t make it down this year, shame on you — and mark your calendar for Fri 6/24/16. They’ll be back!
