Like salsa? It’s your time! There have never been so many varieties around,, with homegrown producers right and left making their own recipes here in northeast Ohio.
So there should be plenty of entries in Geauga Fresh Farmers Market annual salsa-tasting contest. Both regular market vendors and customers can enter their own signature salsa, whether it’s sweet, hot, fresh or cooked. The only rule is that the basic ingredients should be locally grown ones, such as zucchini, watermelon, tomato, tomatillo, eggplant or anything else you grew in your garden or bought from a local farmer. That means mango and pineapple salsas are a no-no. You didn’t grow that pineapple in your yard!
To enter, bring a pint of salsa to the market booth by 9:30AM, marked with your name and its heat —hot or mild. Marketgoers can taste and vote in each category. It’s free; no entry fee either.
