Many people in northeast Ohio are not aware that the Akron Art Museum has one of the most stellar photography collections in the region. That’s largely due to Barbara Tannenbaum, who served as chief curator at the museum for 26 years. Her primary passion is photography, and she grew the collection exponentially and organized 48 photo or video exhibits during her tenure there. That’s why the Cleveland Museum of Art tapped her to move north and become its curator of photography in 2011.

She’s also an avid collector of photography. And she’ll be sharing her ideas about why people collect and how to go about doing so in a presentation called “Collecting Photography” at the Artists Archives of the Western Reserve. After her presentation, there’ll be a Q&A and discussion period. It’s free and open to the public.
