Sat 8/15 @ 5:30PM
The Grateful Dead sang about sharing the women and the wine, a song about possession out of synch with today’s morality — a rock song about drinking wine.
Bobby Weir’s Jack Straw is memorable because of the wordsmithing — the lyrics draw us in as much as the guitar. This Saturday, rock music, wine and words comes together at Harpersfield Vineyard, a great winery with lots of lawn in the center of vineyards, out in the country, in the summertime (echoes of Mungo Jerry now).
What could be better than a great rock and roll band at a place that grows and harvests grapes, crushes out the juice and crafts it into estate-made wine? And two local writers sharing their books about the North Coast?
Writers Claudia Taller and Deanna Adams are hosting a Rock-n-Wine Party at the vineyard. If you love music, wine and books, join them for a fun evening. Ohio’s Lake Erie wineries and Cleveland’s rock-n-roll history are rooted in tradition. Deanna, the rock girl, and Claudia, the wine girl, join forces to bring you a lively presentation on both topics, as well as a giveaway of their books! The fun starts at 5:30PM and the band plays from 7-11PM.
The Elm Street Blues Band will rock the countryside with music played by seasoned musicians Danny McFadden, Hank Hess and Eric McFadden, who do justice to the music of legends like B.B. King, Robert Johnson, and Robert Lockwood, Jr. The Lake County-based group has been a northeast Ohio favorite for nearly 25 years. Once they starts playing, it will be hard not to spill wine, because you’ll be on your feet dancing.
Harpersfield Vineyard was established in 1979 by winemaker Wes Gerlosky and continues as a traditional winery today. The ambience created by the entrance, where you head up the winding drive through vineyards, is breath-taking. A huge fireplace dominates the interior of the winery, while outside picnic tables in the grass create the feel of the French countryside. The winery serves classic European-style wines: Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris and Gruner Veltiner.
And who are the writers?
Claudia J. Taller is a Cleveland-area writer who has been enjoying wine country adventures in Ohio over the last 15 years. She celebrates the possibilities for a well-lived life in Northeast Ohio through facilitation of workshops and retreats for writers and creative souls (Word Lovers and Igniting Possibilities events), leading wineries tours, and writing travel, history, and lifestyle articles for local and national publications. A lifelong writer, she holds a BA in English with a Writing Certificate from Kent State, interned with the Kent State University Press and edited the campus literary journal. Claudia is author of Ohio’s Lake Erie Wineries and Ohio’s Canal Country Wineries. Her spiritual memoir, 30 Perfect Days, Finding Abundance in Ordinary Life, invites the reader to live in the moment, and her novel set in wine country, Daffodils and Fireflies, contemplates love, loss, and redemption. Find out more here.
Deanna Adams is a longtime writer, instructor and author of several books. Her first was Rock ’n’ Roll and the Cleveland Connection. She has also written Confessions of a Not-So-Good Catholic Girl and Cleveland’s Rock and and Roll Roots, a photographic celebration of Cleveland’s rock history. Deanna loves Cleveland and rock ’n’ roll, and her books reflects that passion. Even her novels, Peggy Sue Got Pregnant: A Rock ‘n’ Roll Love Story and Scoundrels & Dreamers, uphold that tradition.
Both authors will speak about what they do and be selling autographed copies of their books, which make great gifts. Participate in a trivia contest and win a free book!
Join Deanna and Claudia with the Elm Street Blues Band at Harpersfield Winery on Sat 8/15 from 5:30-9. It promises to be a lot of fun.
