What can you really tell Clevelanders about Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes at this point? The horn-driven R&B/blues/rock band from the Jersey Shore made their second home here starting from the release of their debut album, I Don’t Want To Go Home, in 1976.
Vocalist Southside Johnny Lyon is the only remaining member of that original ensemble from nearly 40 years ago, but still he persists, fronting a big band with his no-holds-barred vocals into which he throws himself, sweating, body and soul. He doesn’t even look all that much different from the ’70s-era photo above. And the band can always come home to Cleveland, as they’ll be doing when they perform at Cain Park to close the 2015 season.
