Wed 7/1
University Circle’s ten-year-old summer series Wade Oval Wednesdays just keep getting more and more popular. These free evening events feature a really diverse roster of bands, many of them doing original music and none of them performing tribute sets (well with one except — the upcoming Blues Brothers Band). Yet thousands of people turn out to buy some dinner from local food vendors, browse booths from organizations like the Cleveland Public Library and dance to the music.
And dance they did when Carlos Jones & the P.L.U.S. Band drew a record crowd to the Oval for his annual WOW appearance. Estimates ranged as high as 10,000 people but University Circle Inc. executive director Chris Ronayne was pretty sure that the show set the record, with perfect weather, the holiday weekend looming and everyone’s favorite summertime band onstage playing their upbeat roots reggae music.
Wade Oval Wednesdays continue through 8/26.
