Louis Sockalexis, a member of the Penobscot tribe of Maine, was the first recognized minority player of any kind in the National League. He arrived a full 50 years before Jackie Robinson played ball. Though we all know Robinson for the pioneer he was, Sockalexis is largely forgotten. In a presentation at the Maltz Musuem, author and baseball historian David Fleitz will tell you more about the challenges, victories and setbacks Sockalexis experienced.
