British Rocker @ItsGrahamParker Performs @MusicBoxCle

Graham Parker

Tue 6/9 @ 8PM

Graham Parker & the Rumour came out of England in the fertile mid-’70s when punk rock was upending traditional rock music. He himself came out of the pub rock scene, an offshoot that was about basic, gritty rock & roll.

The band released five fierce, prickly albums during their five-year career from 1975 through 1980. 1979’s Squeezing Out Sparks and 1980’s The Up Escalator made the biggest impact on the U.S. although the band never broke out big despite Parker’s powerful songwriting and raw, affecting vocals, and music with subtlety and appeal well beyond the slash-and-burn confines of the punk scene.

In 2011, the original lineup of Parker, keyboard player Bob Andrews, guitarists Brinsley Schwarz and Martin Belmont, bassist Andrew Bodnar and drummer Stephen Goulding regrouped and put out Three Chords Good the following year. It turned out not to be a one-off; they’ve recently released a follow-up, Mystery Glue, and they’re now on tour.

They’ll be at the Music Box Supper Club. Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the door.
