Picture this: you’re a hard-working little indie trio from Indianapolis, comprising a sax player, a drummer and a vocalist/programmer. You’ve come up with a sound you call “funktronica” that combines several of the elements finding favor in the jam band community and you’re starting to make a name for yourself on that circuit.
You choose a name that you think reflects that fun, approachable, slightly geeky attitude your band projects and gives your fans a distinctive identifier: the loud, nerdy knitwear you encourage them to wear. Plus it’s warm and fuzzy and packed with positive vibes. You call yourselves “Cosby Sweater.”
You can see the problem this band ran into. And so they announced that as of the beginning of 2015, they would henceforth be known as Turbo Suit. By the time the change was announced, the Beachland Tavern, where they’re playing this week, was already promoting the show under their old name. But it is the same rhythmically infectious, danceable band.
Thunder St. Clair will open the show, which is free.
