Klezmer Guy Bert Stratton Plays Nighttown With Trio

Wed 2/25 @ 7PM

It would be hard to dispute Bert Stratton’s title as Cleveland’s “Klezmer Guy.” He’s fronted Cleveland-based klezmer band Yiddishe Cup for 27 years, performing all across the country at arts series, concerts and special events.

He also pens a digital blog/column called Klezmer Guy in which he spins stories about Cleveland culture, his family, the problems of being a landlord, characters he’s known, and adventures he’s had.

He’ll be bringing some of those tales to Nighttown when he performs apart from the band. He’ll also be bringing two of the band members, pianist & vocalist Alan Douglass and soul singer Tamar Gray, to give him a hand.

He’s promising an eclectic evening of Klezmer, mid 20th-century pop, swing and soul as well as readings from his prose and some commentary. He’s calling it “matzo meets Motown,” but it should be a lot more than that.

Admission is $10.
