If you haven’t already, now is the time to head down to The Nightlight Cinema and see Force Majeure. The Nightlight Cinema is a uniquely Akron, independent theater founded by the wonderful folks of Akron Film + Pixel.
The dark comedy Force Majeure, which was recently featured on NPR, tells the story of what happens when social constructions are stripped away and the rubble that is left behind. Tomas, the film’s lead character, hastily leaves his children and wife behind in the face of an avalanche. As one would expect, this act has some very negative consequences for Tomas. What is surprising is the universal message that social constructions begin to crumble under pressure.
