Chalet Debonne Vineyards in Madison is the creation of Tony Debevc — known throughout the region for his generous contributions to Ohio’s wine industry. The winery was founded in 1972 on property purchased by Slovenian immigrant Anton Debevc, who purchased a general fruit farm in 1916, which was eventually taken over by his son Tony Sr.
The chalet-style winery opened in 1972 and the original building has expanded into extra sitting areas and outside patio and deck seating. The weekend music festivals draw hundreds of people who enjoy jazz and other classics while drinking bottles of Chardonnay and Riesling and spread out over the green grass on lawn chairs and under self-erected canopies facing the stage.
For a quieter experience, visit on a non-event day and try a number of wines, lingering over the wines created at one of Ohio’s largest and most prestigious wineries where many winemakers have gotten their start.
