The Akron Area Arts Alliance (AAAA) invites AAAA members and the public to explore art outside of traditional spaces.  Vice President Elaine Guregian, former arts writer for the Akron Beacon Journal, moderates the special events at the Summit Artspace Gallery. Elaine took a few moments to tell us more about the event.

Elaine explained the idea of the public getting involved in the art process, as opposed to simply observing, is what sparked the creation of Art in Unexpected Places. The AAAA and Summit Artspace (location of the workshop) has long been committed to bringing engaging, community driven programs to the public, but what makes this event so unique is that guests will be a part of the conversation for the evening.

A diverse board of panelists includes Akron developer Tony Troppe, Heinz Poll Summer Dance Festival director Jane Startzman, Neos Dance Theatre co-artistic director Bobby Wesner, Highland Square Porch Rokr organizer Anita Marron, and University of Akron art education professor Elisa Gargarella. Questions, feedback, and anecdotes are welcomed.

Too often is the creative process of art seen as unapproachable due to budget or venue constraints. What we love about this program is the dialogue of how challenges can lead to innovative performances, pieces, and environments. “Pop Up” art can promote beautiful, unique, and culturally diverse yarns that knit together a city. That idea is what drives us writers at Cool Cleveland, and hopefully drives you as well. Refreshments and thought provoking conversation will be served on November 12, at 5:30pm at The Summit Artspace (140 East Market St., 2nd Floor). See you there!

Registration is encouraged. Contact AAAA at 330-376-8480 or rhinton@akronareaarts.org.
