Akron’s Simeon Soul Charger looks and pretty much sounds like a heavy psychedelic band from 1969, a serious, musically ambitious quartet led by songwriter/vocalist Aaron Brooks.
But he wasn’t always making such adventurous music. Before Simeon Soul Charger, there was Trendy, a goofy, tuneful pop-punk band with the cloying name. Brooks has worked hard to put his Trendy days behind him, as Simeon Soul Charger has built a reputation within its scene, touring extensively, spending time in Germany, and releasing two EPs and a full-length album.
But apparently he’s now ready to look back on his youthful folly lovingly. Trendy is doing a reunion show at Musica in Akron. Chil and Townhouse Captains are also on the bill.
