One, two, warmer than the zoo.
Three, four, celebrate our shore.
Five, six, watch magician’s tricks.
Seven, eight, get to stay out late.
Nine, ten, trick-or-treat again.

Look past the creepy crawlers this Halloween season, through the glass to the slimy swimmers. This month the Greater Cleveland Aquarium mutates into a Hauntaquarium. Stay dry and warm while watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles dive with sharks as children safely trick-or-treat among crocodiles. The event also provides animal encounters, magicians, face painters, balloon animals, a coral maze, and music.

“Our Hauntaquarium is a great family-friendly event, where families can come dressed in their costumes and trick-or-treat throughout the aquarium,” Joe Prada, the aquarium’s marketing coordinator, said. “It is also our most affordable ticket rate, so it is a perfect opportunity for families to visit while saving some money.”

Having made a huge splash in the past, they are expecting between 600 and 700 people for each of the four nights of the spooky festivities. This year, guests will get to stroll among many new aquarium features including a Giant Pacific Octopus named K-Love (who joined the facility a couple months ago) and a renovated Ohio Lakes and Rivers gallery that surrounds participants in a wooded Ohio forest. There is also a new turtle wall (celebrating those local reptiles without advanced martial arts skills) and reptile/amphibian wall in the Ohio gallery.

“Not to toot our own horn, but I think the entire experience will be appreciated by all the families for Hauntaquarium,” Prada added. “We offer a safe and dry environment for the kids to trick or treat and explore the underwater world. We don’t just hand out candy, we also hand out items that the kids can learn from such as Aquatic Species Trading Cards.”

Kids are encouraged to attend dressed in costumes, as are adults provided their faces are not covered.

Hauntaquarium at the Greater Cleveland Aquarium October 17, 18, 24, and 25 from 6 pm until 9 pm for $10/pass holder or $11/non-pass holder for everyone age 2 and up. Those under 2 are free.
