No, it’s not Halloween. It’s pretty much nothing like Halloween. El Dia de los Muertos is one of the most highly regarded holidays in Latin American countries and particularly Mexico. November first is traditionally a day to remember loved ones who have passed and reflect on their lives through food, drink, flowers, lively celebrations and more.
So what can I expect at this celebration? At the tenth annual Dia de Muertos in Cleveland, you will find food vendors, live music, altar exhibitions, folk art and face painting, among other Day of the Dead activities. Take a break from activity-hopping at 3:30 to watch the Parade of Skeletons and Skulls.
I forgot to mention, it’s free. So that’s cool. After your crazy Halloween celebration the night before, head over to the Gordon Square Arts District to soak up some Latin American culture and get some grub.
