Fuel

Whether it’s a tasty herb workshop at the Rocky River Nature Center or alternative fuels being discussed this week at the Earth Day Coalition’s monthly Fuel for Thought breakfast, or just cool projects like the new Music Box Supper Club or the LKWD Music Fest that keep our revival humming, this region’s always generated its share of energy.

The bats return to Lakeview Cemetery, ARTneo moves to 78th Street Studios, Resistance is evident at the Capitol Theatre, a grand piano alights in the Cultural Garden, Mansfield warns of a police state, and Alex shows how a local band put in their 10,000 hours and got signed. Now that’s fuel for thought. –Thomas Mulready

When the sleepy little Lakewood bowling alley Mahall’s 20 Lanes was taken over by new owners at the beginning of 2012, things changed dramatically — and they’ve continued to change.

The two sets of bowling lanes upstairs and down still exude ’50s flavor, but the occasional rockabilly band booking has given way to a full schedule of indie bands of all types. For its third year, Mahall’s LKWD Music Fest has gotten bigger still…

As one of the most important meals of the day, breakfast provides energy.

However, it’s not the type of alternative energy that will be discussed at the Earth Day Coalition’s monthly Fuel for Thought breakfast speaker series targeting alternative-fuel vehicle-fleet owners & wannabees.

Those attending the unique series will get a firsthand chance to meet regional leaders who made decisions to adopt alternative fuel vehicles, advanced vehicle technologies and-or make biofuels early in the game…

For my last entry in the foreseeable future, I wanted to leave with a wish list for Cleveland…

10,000 Hours
How a Local Band Signed a Record Deal

Cleveland is a hotbed of activity for local bands. But how many actually succeed? And what is the definition of that success?

Is it selling a few hundred CDs and filling a downtown pub? Or is it receiving national recognition by going on tour and having a hit record on the Billboard Top 100?…

If the videotape from a convenience store in Ferguson, MO is to be believed — and I have no reason to doubt its authenticity — then 18-year-old Michael Brown (an unarmed African-American youth who was shot and killed by a white police officer) was a thug and a bully.

My theory is that he never thought he would win. Rather, the campaign would get him “name recognition” from other parts of Ohio and thus enable a statewide run for some office in the future. Now that is dashed…

I cant pic Ed being THAT ‘blank’ to pull THAT or ANY such dumb stunt but HEY….LIKE to give benefit of doubt BUT…. I can see pulling over for a FEW minutes TRYING to look at the GPS or map or whatever but BUT….CONSIDERING ALL THE PAST BS IF ANYONE SHOULD be aware of ANY problems and bad PR then it SHOULD be “Ed”….
